Making a sinamay base is a great way to learn a number of fundamental techniques for blocking, hand stitching and couture millinery processes. Designed for those beginning the millinery journey, this course will teach these techniques. You will walk a way with a fabulous sample that you can actually use as a base for your next beautiful creation.

Module 1 - Introduction to Blocking


In this module, Catherine introduces a variety of blocks, equipment and millinery materials suitable for Blocking a hat or headpiece.

Module 2 - Create your own Sinamay Base


In this module Catherine teaches a variety of millinery techniques using Sinamay. By completing this module you will have a finished Sinamay base that you can use for creating fascinators and headpieces.

  • Chapter 5: Designing and Creating the Sinamay Base Shape
Module 2

Module 3 - Tips for the perfect Sinamay Base


In this module Catherine guides you through some fundamental stitch techniques and blocking techniques. She also gives you a few helpful hints and tips to help overcome some of the typical challenges that you might encounter working with Sinamay. The techniques demonstrated in this module give you a great sample of processes. You will gain knowledge and insights to follow for blocking other millinery shapes, crowns, and brims.
